Virechana Therapy - 14 Ayurveda Days Detoxification Treatment Program

Virechana is a detoxification program that is performed for the duration of two weeks. It is a part of the Panchakarma therapy that helps in the reduction and elimination of doshas in the body. Virechana is made to improve the health and detoxify the body. The treatment pacifies the Pitta dosha and the disturbances that occur due to it. The toxins are formed in our body in the liver, gallbladder, digestive organs, and gastrointestinal tract. Removal of the toxins from our system is necessary to maintain good health and well being.

The toxins are removed from the excretory system through the rectum. The patient is given some Ayurvedic medicines that have the property to remove the toxins and pacify the various doshas. Certain herbal medicines may also be given to the patient in this treatment. The medicines help in moving the toxins and doshas towards the abdomen area. The medicines help in inducing purgation that is useful for eliminating pitta dosh.

Preparation is made before virechana that involves giving oral appetizers, digestion medicines and medicated ghee to the patient. Oil massage or abhyanga and swedana or sudation are made after that. Once this is made, virechana is made by giving some medicines to a person.

Different types of ayurvedic medicines are used in this treatment. The medicines are prescribed according to the condition of specific persons and their digestion power. The medicines have to be taken orally through the mouth. Light foods are given to the patient and they get a personalized diet plan accordingly. Warm foods are also prescribed.
