What is Shirodhara

Shirodhara is a process of pouring a warm liquid over the forehead. You lay down on your back with a basin under your head to catch the excess liquid poured on your forehead. Usually, a pot of warm liquid is poured slowly onto your forehead, and the excess runs off and into the basin under your head. The liquid can be anything from warm herbal oils, milk, buttermilk, coconut water, plain old water, or whatever you like best. Shirodhara has been called the third eye treatment because the liquid is poured between the eyes on the forehead, where the third eye is on the body. Shirodhara was developed in India, and the name comes from the Sanskrit words that mean head and flow, "Shiro and Dhara." This treatment has been used on people with sleeping problems like insomnia, headaches and many other health problems.
