The ayurvedic healing procedure, in which oil is applied to the body and massaged, is called Abhyangam. It is a part of the daily routine in the treatment of diseases. Certain Ayurvedic oils that have unique properties to heal the body are used for doing the massage. The oil is prepared using Ayurvedic medicines and infusing herbs. The massage is done from the top of the body, from the head to the bottom to the toes. Even the soles of the feet and the ears are massaged with oil. Since it’s a self-care procedure, you can do it yourself without the help of some other person. It is recommended that the massage be done daily for the best results. The oil is heated slightly before use, and the massage is done with warm oil. It is the best remedy for healing and rejuvenating the body.
The person who does the massage in an Ayurvedic centre moves the hands away from your heart with a specific rhythm. The massager makes unique strokes of the hands. The massage is done using an Ayurvedic technique. Doing the warm oil massage in this way decreases the pressure on your heart. It increases the blood circulation. You can improve your energy levels and get healthy skin with this massage. It is helpful for the healing of health problems like arthritis, spondylitis, sleep problems, skin disorders, poor eyesight, pain, and problems of the joints and muscles. Health problems due to Vata imbalance can be healed with the massage. This massage effectively fights old-age problems that occur in older people.
Ancient Ayurvedic physicians and experts in India have recommended daily massages for people who want to relieve their illnesses and improve their health. Massages can be done by people of all age groups, young and old, without any side effects or harm.
Traditional Ayurvedic oil massage: Abhyangam is a holistic therapy designed to rejuvenate the body, mind, and spirit. It involves the rhythmic application of warm herbal oils tailored to an individual’s dosha, or body constitution, and is known for its myriad benefits. This treatment improves blood circulation, promotes detoxification, and enhances lymphatic drainage, nourishing and revitalising the body. It helps alleviate stress, reduce muscle tension, and improve joint mobility, making it ideal for those with physical or mental fatigue. Additionally, Abhyangam supports better sleep, strengthens the immune system, and nourishes the skin, making it a vital practice for overall health and well-being.
We use long, flowing downward effleurage strokes with medicated oil in a sequence determined by your imbalanced dosha. This is followed by medicated steam treatment and a dosha-dependent balancing treatment. It prepares your body to eliminate the build-up of toxins and Arma in your system, aiding in the preparation of the body for other treatments.
Depending on your imbalanced dosha and the body's needs, which are often assessed during consultation, we may adapt the traditional style, flow towards the heart, or include other healing modalities or treatments.
This can include Marma stimulation, rebalancing or releasing (sometimes painful), or different strokes to loosen joints and shoulders and move energy. Deep tissue work may also be performed.
This massage promotes:
Healing/preventing nervous system disorders, strengthening the immune system, reducing fatigue and stress, promoting sleep, and making skin soft and deeply nourished.
